The Science Behind Holganix: What is the Holganix Secret Recipe?

holganix_recipe

Just as a baker designs a cake, Holganix scientists layer in numerous ingredients to concoct the perfect batch of Holganix Bio 800+. Ingredients are uniquely harvested and measured with DNA fingerprinting to ensure for a consistently identical product with each batch.

The process begins with a plant based compost tea. Additional ingredients are then layered in to create a product that is teeming with beneficial soil microorganisms, biological food sources and soil amending ingredients. In fact, there are over 800 species of bacteria in Holganix Bio 800+ and over 20 species of fungi! That's a lot of power in a single Holganix Bio 800+ jug!

So, what are some of these key ingredients?

Humic and Fulvic Acids

These key acids support respiration of soil microorganisms in the soil, enhances seed germination and promotes root development and absorption of micronutrients.

Endo and Ecto Mycorrhizae

Endo and Ecto Mycorrhizae assist with water, mineral and nutrient uptake in plants. Endo Mycorrhizae penetrate roots and are associated with grassy plants while Ecto Mycorrhizae grow in association with plant roots and are associated with woody plants.

The plant and mycorrhizae form a mutualistic relationship whereby the plant produces sugars through photosynthesis and exudes them out of the roots for mycorrhizae and other beneficial microorganisms to consume.

In turn, mycorrhizae bring water and nutrients to the roots from distances the root cannot reach. They also form physical barriers protecting the roots from pathogens and secrete biochemicals that wreck havoc on disease.

To learn more about how endo and ecto mycorrhizae assist with plant health, check out this blog: What is mycorrhizae?

Nitrogen Fixing Bacteria

Nitrogen fixing bacteria convert nitrogen found in the soil and atmosphere from a nitrite (a form not useable to the plant) to a nitrate (a useable form of nitrogen for the plant).

The process of converting nitrogen is the nitrogen cycle. You can learn more about nitrogen fixing bacteria and their interation in the nitrogen cycle by visiting this blog: Soil Bacteria 101

Yucca Extract

Yucca extract acts as a natural spreader sticker, wetting agent and soil conditioner.

Trichoderma

Trichoderma are fungi that enhance root and plant growth and aid in plant disease resistance. Trichoderma will take over a root zone, outcompeting pathogens for space to form on the plant and for nutrients.
