Overwhelmed with Lawn Care Marketing? Here's Help Breaking it Down!

At this time of the year, your marketing and sales department sometimes gets a little overwhelming. Breaking it down into small segments can help build successful goals and assist your company into reaching its true potential. Download our templates here (template 1 + template 2) and follow along or create your own!

Here are some tips on breaking it down:

  1. Make a 2012 yearly goal for your sales/marketing to be achieved by June 1st.  How many customers do you need to reach your targeted 2012 goal rate? For example: I would like 100 new customers this year which means I need 75 by June 1st. Check out the first downloaded image.
  2. Break down your 2012 yearly goal by month. How many new customers do you need each month to achieve your year round goal? Remember to use the bell curve for seasonality. Check out the bottom first image.
  3. Break down your monthly goal by week. How many new customers do you need each week in order to achieve your monthly goal? Check out the second image.
  4. Break down your weekly goal by how many calls you should make as well as how many prepays you should send. Try to aim for a 0.5-1.0% close rate! Check out the second image.
  5. Break down the needed number of customers per week by zip code and the number of people in each zip code. This allows you to make sure you make the most of each possible zip code in your area. Check out the second image.

Other helpful hints:

  1. Mailing to more numbers does not necessarily mean greater sales. You must have closers to answer the phone and to call and close the sales! Otherwise you are simply burning cash.
  2. You will not get a huge response from a Val Pak or clipper type mailing in February; however it is worth setting up and branding for the spring.
  3. A good way to be more marketable is to differentiate your business. One way to do this is to use an organic fertilizer or a bio stimulant like Holganix! It appeals to a wider customer base, is better for the environment and saves you money.
